Celebre Place Community History
Celebre Place is part of the Lou DeMarco Village, a planned community for seniors on the north side of in Kenosha. The vision of a village with a variety of affordable housing options for older adults arose from the advocacy work of the Kenosha Senior Action Council, a group founded by prominent Kenoshans Lou DeMarco and Ernest Celebre in 1983.
As the Village grew in the 1980s and 1990s, aging seniors wanted to continue living in their apartments but with optional assisted living services. In July 2012 Celebre Place – Senior Independent Apartments with Services – opened. Celebre was designed for seniors age 62 and older with full-size apartments plus optional assisted living services. Celebre features a chef-managed dining program, daily social and recreational programing and around the clock staff to support residents who desire assistance with medications and other personal care services in the privacy of their own apartment. Residents who qualify for Wisconsin’s Family Care program may have the costs of services covered by this program. Celebre Place is the only affordable senior community of this type in Kenosha.
